Today we start the second leg of our journey, and head south to the Fleureau Peninsula for three nights. Next door to our motel was a very nice coffee shop that served breakfast, so we chose to eat there, after packing our bags ready to set off. The Budget Rental office was only two blocks away, so we decided we could manage to get there without the assistance of a taxi, and were soon settled into our Toyota Corolla and heading out of Adelaide.
Sandra has a friend, Lynne, who lives in a community eco village at Adinga Beach south of Adelaide. There were no problems in finding our way out of the city, Adelaide is well planned and it is a straight forward route to travel south. We arrived at Adinga Beach by mid morning, Lynne was waiting with a nice morning tea, and much conversation catching up with the news. It was interesting noting the eco elements attached to her home, and the plans she has for renovations. Lynne had also prepared a very nice smoked trout and salad lunch which we thoroughly enjoyed, looking out over the fields surrounding the eco village. After lunch we had an opportunity to wander around the village, which apparently is one of the most successful in Australia and started about fifteen years ago. The homes are all eco-friendly with their own water tanks, a community garden and farm.
After some strawberries and yogurt we said goodbye to Lynne and started our journey to Victor Harbor where we will stay for three nights. Initially we took an incorrect turn, but eventually found our way to the highway leading south, getting some wonderful views of the vineyards and the rolling hills around us.
By mid-afternoon we had reached our destination at the Bluff Apartments with magnificent views across Victor Harbor, Wright Island and Granite Island. After settling in and deciding on our plans for the next few days, we went to a nearby fish cafe for a nice dinner of fish and prawns (battered, not usually what I like, but it was OK), a glass of wine, and a great conversation with the former owner of the business who is now one of the local radio announcers. The decor of the cafe was quite eclectic, and it had great views of the harbour.
Tomorrow we have an early start for our much anticipated tour to Kangaroo Island.
