First Trip to Western Australia

Last September we booked our journey to Perth on the Indian Pacific train, and finally our departure date has arrived!  So excited at the prospect of a long, relaxed train ride across three states with stops at Broken Hill (north western NSW), Adelaide (SA), Cook and Kalgoorlie (WA) before arriving in Perth.

Our plans are to spend about 5 days in Perth with day trips to The Pinnacles, Rottnest Island, Hotham Valley Steam train and Perth and Fremantle generally.  Then we head east to Merredin, the centre of the wheat country, south to Wave Rock, then west again to Bunbury.

During our three days in Bunbury we will explore the area to the south west, including the beautiful Margaret River vineyards – maybe taste some of their great wines!  Along the southern coast we will visit Pemberton, Walpole and the fantastic karri forests, Denmark and Albany then further east to the white sands and blue waters of Esperance where I am sure we will enjoy a few quiet and relaxing days.  From there we will travel north to Lake King, then west again to Wagin, centre of the sheep district and home of the Big Merino Ram, returning to Fremantle and Perth to catch up with whatever we missed earlier.

So looking forward to this trip, hope you enjoy the ride with us.
