Part of the Parliament buildings in Wellington
6th – 16th December 2013
Yes, I know New Zealand is not in Oz…..but it is pretty close, and the visit was to celebrate the 70th birthday of my cousin Jenny – and she is an Aussie! Good enough reason for me to include our adventure in my travel blog.
It all started when Jen’s husband, Pete, phoned me to tell me to expect an invitation to the birthday lunch in mid-December. Concerns about how I was going to organise a trip at short notice and so close to the end of the year lasted about 5 seconds, and I decided “Have to go”. For years I have promised my 15 year old granddaughter, Tayla, that I would take her to NZ to visit her relatives, so this was a great opportunity to invite her to come – and of course she jumped at the chance.
Our thoughts were that if we were going that far, we might as well take a few extra days and see a bit more of the North Island. It would certainly bring back many happy memories of when my long time friend, Jan, and I sailed to NZ when we were 20 to work and backpack around both North and South Islands….a long time ago now!
Wellington was to be our first stop, then north east to Napier, west to Rotorua and further west to our final destination Auckland.
Share and enjoy our adventures in the Land of the Long White Cloud.
