Tallangatta to Canberra

In the early morning sunshine at the lookout, Tallangatta with Ruth and Graham

31 March 2016

Another long drive today, and we had a reasonably early start as Ruth had an appointment in Albury, and we were going to follow them as far as Wodonga.  Firstly they took us on a tour around the edge of the Lake, then to a wonderful lookout with fabulous views over the valley and town (below).  It is a beautiful area, with rolling hills surrounding the valley.  Ruth and Graham’s son has a property not far out of town, so we stopped to see the farm and the house atop a hill with lovely views across the valley.

When we arrived at Wodonga, we parted ways, and I made my way to the Telstra shop in the Wodonga Centre to see if they could solve the problem that had arisen with my mobile.  The technician took the phone apart, put it together, pressed a few buttons – and it was fixed!  He suggested that once we travelled into South Australia the phone adjusted to the change in time zone, but then got stuck!  I don’t know what happened, all I know is that I did not have mobile connection for over five days!  However, it was great to get it working again, and to catch up on the messages that had come through.

We had a quick coffee and muffin at the Muffin Break, then set off on another long drive to Canberra.  The Hume Highway is a reasonably good road, but it is very boring driving along these highways, and difficult to keep concentration.  A short detour to Gundagai to see the Dog on the Tucker Box (below) was essential, and to buy an icecream to keep us going.

Fortunately my GPS was working as we wound our way around Canberra, and it was easy to find my cousin’s house in the lovely suburb of Gordon, overlooking the Brindabella ranges.  It had been a glorious sunny and warm day, and we thoroughly enjoyed a cuppa sitting on their deck overlooking the valley and ranges beyond.

We always find lots to talk about and decided to have dinner at home, and catch up with the news. Tomorrow will be the last day of our holidays as we head for home.
